Daynote - Wed 2 Apr
Chop chop chop chop.

Another absolutely gorgeous morning walk at the beach, including meeting two extremely friendly Yorkshire terriers. The Firth of Forth as flat as a millpond, Edinburgh hazy in the distance and a bowl of blue sky over the whole thing. Lovely.
ON DECK: A very solid morning of cuts today, down -929 words overall and under 119k total. I actually did a bit of forward-looking this morning, checking out some later chapters that I thought might be a quick, painless cut. But on reading them now, they're a) quite short, so I wouldn't lose that much and b) quite closely integrated together, so cutting them might break some things narratively.
I haven't got to those chapters in my readthrough yet (and I'm catching up to myself, so I need to prioritise getting through the draft), so I guess I'll see how they actually hang together when I read them. There's a chance I can do my word count reductions purely through line edits, but I'm fairly sure I'll be able to lose a whole scene here or there too. My structural game is pretty competent, but it's not 'perfect structure, no notes' good on the first draft.
LISTENING: The Binge domination of my headphones continued this morning with his appearance on Write Now With Scrivener. Excellent interview, and I was nodding along to the bit about how he uses the software itself.
WATCHING: A bit of MYTHIC QUEST last night. Reliably daft.
READING: More of PROJECT SCARLET yesterday, and I need to focus on it today as well, since I'm editing faster than I'm reading at the moment.
LINK: I haven't listened to it yet (it's gone into my 'Spoilers' list in Overcast to listen to later), but I'm looking forward to this episode of the Binge Reading Bookclub (there he is again) on Emma Newman's Planetfall, which has been in my TBR pile for ages.
UP NEXT: You know the score - more editing. Not quite hitting a thousand words cut per day but I'm comfortably exceeding my minimums, which is what I want, and getting out for my walks. Here's hoping the sunshine continues. Onward!
