Daynote - Wed 16 Apr
Zeroing in on an ending.
Yet more rain this morning, but I don't mind because we had a lovely meal in Edinburgh last night with friends, which was a very welcome break from the usual weekly routine.
ON DECK: A decent -867 words this morning, and I'm now under 109k, so it really does feel like it's all coming together nicely. I am, however, repeatedly outpacing my own edit read, so I need to get some serious reading done this evening to try and get a bunch of scenes edited on the Supernote.
I could edit directly on screen (and I've done so before) but I really love the reader-like perspective editing on the Supernote gives me. I don't think I'll do what I'm currently doing again though - reading a few chapters ahead and editing as I go. I'll just read the whole thing, get to the end of the manuscript, then start editing. The Wallace and Gromit-esque laying the track in front of the train thing is kind of annoying and weirdly stressful and doing things in parallel hasn't saved me any time, really.
LISTENING: I greatly enjoyed this interview with spy writer and filmmaker Michael Idov on the Spybrary podcast. His novel THE COLLABORATORS sounds fantastic.
WATCHING: No TV last night, as we were eating a nice dinner instead, but I thought this trailer for the game FROSTRAIL looked very interesting:
Big METRO:EXODUS vibes, but with a side-order of SNOWPIERCER.
READING: Reading my own book over and over again and honestly on the cusp of being pretty bored of it.
LINK: Three of my author friends (Eliza Chan, Annabel Campbell and Genoveva Dimova) are doing a joint event next week on 'Outsiders in Fantasy', chaired by the excellent Ann Landmann (director of Cymera Festival). It looks fantastic.
UP NEXT: You know the answer. More reading. More editing. I am very much looking forward to working on something else. And the long weekend.
Onward!
