Daynote - Tue 22 Apr
Off into town.

I'm in town today for the day job, so no morning walk. But there's consolations, like reading on the train and a coffee on the way to the office. Still, I miss the woods on mornings like this.
ON DECK: A decent -768 this morning before getting the train into town. I'm very close to the end now, so I'm pretty sure I won't get under 100k on this pass. But I'll definitely get there pretty soon, on the second edit pass with my critique partners.
LISTENING: I'm prepping for my conversation with Chris Whitaker at the end of the month, and I was reminded of this excellent episode of Confessions of a Book Collector he did last year, which at the time caused me to repeatedly murmur 'what the fuck' to myself. Chris has had a very interesting life story.
WATCHING: I have to say, the immensely creepy folk horror vibes of the recent trailers for 28 YEARS LATER are giving me high hopes. I'd love to see quite a deep dive into how the Rage virus has reshaped the world after so long. We'll see.
READING: More ALL THE COLOURS OF THE DARK yesterday. It's an almost hallucinatory book in its vividness and scope. One of those rare books that has completely grabbed me.
LINK: I really enjoyed this piece by Susan Dennard on the many ways to tighten your prose and get your word counts down in the edit. It was particularly well timed for what I'm doing right now.
UP NEXT: In town today, then back to the usual routine from tomorrow. I suspect I'll finish this cutting edit tomorrow or the day after. I'm definitely very close. Onward!
