Hello Big Smoke.

A very comfortable sleeper trip and I'm in the big city, though I'll be in the office most of the day. I really like having the chance to come back to London semi-regularly. All the reasons we moved away still apply, but it's fun to dip in and see what's new from time to time.

ON DECK: More line edits this morning, with an aggregate word count of 7 whole words. But I got through eight chapters and it's nearly done. It's a lot of fun, revisiting these characters. Although I am looking forward to switching projects again. Even though it's all going to be editing, probably until the end of the year.

LISTENING: Still working on the latest Hypnagogue Podcast episode. They're long, so they normally last me a couple of days of writing time.

WATCHING: This video has been doing the rounds over the last week or so, and I won't spoil it. But it's a very fun ride. And a good example of the importance of a body of work.

READING: I don't tend to get much reading done when I go on the sleeper, because my priority is to try and get to sleep before the train starts moving (that helps a LOT, because you're much more likely to sleep through the night) but I do get caught up on blog posts and newsletters while I'm waiting to board. I loved this newsletter from MK Hardy on the remarkable achievement of writing a book. And this blog post from literary agent Caro Clarke explaining the basics of publishing contracts is going right in the bookmarks both for myself and the new writers I meet all the time who are mystified by the legalese of the industry when they first encounter it.

UP NEXT: More editing. I reckon I'll have the SCARLET sample done tomorrow. Then, next week, I'll be diving into a quick short story redraft and then back onto PROJECT SHARD, which I'm aiming to get sub-ready by November(ish).
