Daynote - Thu 14 Nov
Faffing with purpose.
Back into the work today, after a couple of days of faffing around with marketing and admin and critique reading. And a lovely sunny day here in Scotland to boot.
ON DECK: I had a really great call yesterday with some feedback on PROJECT SCARLET, then spent my writing time this morning making the resulting changes, for a total of 727 words. It's really coming together in a pleasing way. It's a lot of fun to see a project come to life in this way, with each bit of input and suggestion making the characters feel more real and the plot begin to gel.
TOOLS: After laboriously porting everything to Apple Reminders last week, I encountered the same infuriating bug/odd behaviour that caused me to ditch it last time, then laboriously ported everything back to Things 3.
Essentially, in Things, if you create a repeating todo, you have two options - repeat every X period (like every Saturday or every three days) and repeat after completion, so 'create a new one of these three days or five weeks after I did the last one'. In Apple Reminders, it doesn't work like this, so if you don't complete a todo on the day it's due, or reschedule it, the whole repeating pattern is either thrown off or even just removed (without warning). It's really annoying.
So, back to Things again. I've played around a bit with Godspeed because I like the idea of keyboard entry as the primary input, but the cost puts me off and it lacks some repeating patterns I'd like (like 'repeat every last weekday').
One day I'll find the task manager that actually works exactly the way I want, but it is not this day.
LISTENING: Chilling to the Hypnagogue Podcast this morning.
WATCHING: Caught up on BAKE OFF, it's getting tense now. Plus we're watching THE FRANCHISE on Now TV, which is a very funny comedy drama that takes place on the British set of an American superhero franchise movie. Absolutely hilarious script. Armando Iannucci is a producer and it definitely shows.
READING: Haven't read this week, I've been going to bed too late. Back to it next week.
UP NEXT: Another short waiting period while the SCARLET sample is passed around to various interested parties, so I'll be back on the SHARD edits while I wait. But with any luck, in the next wee while, I'll be able to start working on SCARLET full time.
