A woodland walk on a sunny morning.

A path leading through a sunny woodland

Since I started regularly walking in the mornings, I've usually only carried a basic burner phone for emergencies/reporting sheep stuck in fences. But after reading and applying Casey Johnston's article about making your smartphone stupid, it occurred to me that the reasons I generally left my phone at home in the morning no longer applied (i.e. a bottomless source of distraction in your pocket), because there's nothing interesting or distracting left on my phone.

I've been meaning to carry a camera for a while on my walks, but it's kind of a faff getting pictures off older cameras, and as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you. And I've missed the chance to take some truly gorgeous pictures over the years. So I've decided to experiment with taking a shot for this blog each morning. We'll see how that goes. The first one is above, about halfway through the woodland part of my daily walk. I love this walk, because it's different every day - the light, the wind, the smells, the animals and birds I see and hear. It never gets boring.

ON DECK: Slow work this morning, with some dialogue-heavy scenes that didn't have a lot of room for cuts without removing actual information. Got to -584 words (10 words over target) eventually, but it was slooow.

LISTENING: I really enjoyed this interview with Hannah Kaner (author of the Fallen Gods trilogy) at SFFAddicts. I've met Hannah a couple of times through events here in Edinburgh and she's both a great interviewer and interviewee.

WATCHING: More LAST ONE LAUGHING last night and it gets steadily funnier as the comedians dwindle in number.

READING: More PROJECT SCARLET on the Supernote. Still working with support to try and get my missing notes back, but I'm forging ahead because I'm rapidly catching up to myself in the edit.

LINK: Today's link is another podcast, and another Tariq podcast to boot - here he is on The Conversation with Nadine Matheson.

UP NEXT: One more day of editing this week, then I might be going to the ESFF write-in event this weekend to do a bit more. But before that, this evening, I'm off to Tariq's launch at Blackwell's in Edinburgh. It's sold out, but if you've got a ticket, I'll see you there. Onward!
