Daynote - Mon 7 Oct
Cutting a load of words and adding a load more.
Thanks to some very swift reading by my most-excellent critique partners, I came out of our weekly meeting last night with a very long list of changes to the PROJECT SCARLET sample. And today I got up on time and got a mega session in thanks to a lot of drizzle outside.
ON DECK: Edits on SCARLET as above, with 6,379 words dumped (ouch, but that's the game) and 2,275 new words written. It's already so much better. I'm very lucky to have critique partners with excellent instincts who I can trust to tell me when something isn't quite working. And, once I've had a tiny wee sulk, who I will listen to.
LISTENING: Glad to see one of my favourite writing podcasts, The Real Writing Process, coming back. This morning I enjoyed the new episode with George Mann.
WATCHING: I really enjoyed this FanFiAddict stream with SFF author Ian Green. I met Ian at WorldCon this year and he was every bit as thoughtful and funny as this video attests.
READING: A bit more of OVER THE RIVER by CJ Dotson yesterday, on my to and from Edinburgh on the train.
UP NEXT: This week (and probably a chunk of next week) I've got a bunch more edits to do. I got lots done this morning, but that was the easier work (drafting new scenes). Later this week I've got to unpick a few other scenes and rework them fairly substantially, which will be slower, harder work. But I've got a plan now.
