Daynote - Fri 18 Apr
A cheeky bit of Good Friday editing.
A very happy Friday. It's a bank holiday here in the UK, so I got to spend a little longer working on writing this morning, which was lovely. I also got bored of random computer stock photography, so I used a typewriter for once. I do enjoy the results for 'writing' when you search for stock photos. Lots of coffee cups, fountain pens and fancy journals. Less eye strain, spreadsheets and sticky notes.
ON DECK: A very solid -1,573 words this morning and I'm under 107k and well on the way to 106k. With about 23,000 words remaining to edit in the current draft and 6.5k left to cut, I need to lose roughly 350-400 words in every 1,000. Tight, but doable. We'll see how it goes.
LISTENING: The Page One boys are seriously on quite the streak with amazing guests. Today's is Elif Shafak, and it's a really excellent episode.
WATCHING: More WHEEL OF TIME last night and this season is starting to work for me. There was a fantastic repeated shot in the episode we watched last night that did an incredible job of conveying the looping, terrifying nature of one character's experience. Excellent filmmaking.
READING: I finally finished the readthrough of PROJECT SCARLET last night, which is a relief. I'll need to read it at least one more time before I send it away, but for now it means I have a bit more capacity to read other people's work, which feels great.
LINK: Absolutely love the cover for the next novella from Shauna Lawless, DAUGHTER OF THE OTHERWORLD. I read this in first draft (Shauna is a critique partner of mine) and it was fantastic.
UP NEXT: A weekend off! No writing! Only a little reading! I can't wait. And the fence crew should be finished today, so if the weather's nice we might be able to enjoy our back garden without wondering if today is finally the day when the old fence gives up the ghost. That'll be nice.
Onward!
