Daynote - Fri 2nd Aug 2024
The end of another week.
Missed my walk this morning thanks to a late night, but it continues to be bang in my preferred temperature range this week. Still avoiding the lurgy too, fingers crossed it stays that way.
ON DECK: I'm working on the SCARLET outline, and I'm reworking it from scratch, but I'm also copy/pasting bits from the original outline, so it's hard to judge how much actual new writing I'm doing. Probably about 500 words today. It's going pretty well. I've got some ideas for a new set of POVs to thread through the book and a change of locale and sequence of events for the book's finale, so it'll get a bit harder as I get closer to the end. But for now it's a pretty fun exercise.
LISTENING: Bit of Jazz Chill this morning, along with this fun interview with crime and horror author B.P. Walter.
WATCHING: Watched a bit of THE GENTLEMEN last night. It's a fun crime caper and really well made. Reminds me a lot of Guy Ritchie's earlier work, so I guess you'd call it a return to form.
READING: Bit more SPOOK STREET last night. The line level writing is just chef's kiss. And there's a new character I'm immediately suspicious of, but also suspicious of my own suspicion, if that makes sense. Looking forward to who gets cast in that role.
UP NEXT: Only three days of (planned) writing work next week, as Thursday onwards I'll be at WorldCon in Glasgow. I will probably slip away and do the odd bit of work (as a wee break) but I'm not making any plans or counting on getting anything done. I'm a bit nervous about the sheer scale of the event. Well over 950 sessions on the programme. It's absolutely nuts. But I also can't wait.
