Daynote - Mon 1st Jul 2024
Oh wow, it's July.
My monthly newsletter for June went out yesterday, featuring this super nice blurb from Mike Craven as well as a ton of other updates. You can subscribe here.
ON DECK: I finished my final re-read of A RELUCTANT SPY yesterday and sent a few more corrections over. So that's me done-done on that. I was going to work on the outline for Legends 2 this morning, but instead I thought I would clear a couple of articles that need to be written. This was because when my calendar flipped over to July, I noticed some deadlines I'd forgotten about. Anyway, 2,900 words this morning (answering interview questions I find a lot easier than writing outlines, haha) in a nice two hour session (because it was raining, so I didn't get out for my walk).
LISTENING: An episode of THE BEAR we watched recently (see below) featured a haunting, extended, repeating version of 'Together' by Nine Inch Nails, so I spent most of this morning's writing session listening to that album, along with the July episode of 'As The Seasons Turn', a wonderful podcast describing the changes of each month.
WATCHING: We started watching Season 3 of THE BEAR, which for my money is one of the best shows on TV right now. This season's cinematography is absolutely stunning and it continues to be a show which can tell entire stories with just a glance or an extended shot of someone's face. Superb.
READING: Still reading MOSCOW X and having a great time.
UP NEXT: I'll probably finish the first of two articles I have due later today, then get back to the outline tomorrow. I'm deep in the Slough of Despond and Uncertainty on this outline, where I doubt every creative and plot decision I've made. Thankfully it's a lot easier to rework a couple of thousand words in bullet point form than a whole book manuscript, which is why I am a die-hard outliner, even if my outlines are loose and high-level.
