Once again, another year of writing has rolled around and we're back in Awards Consideration Season. So here's a blog post of everything I had published this year and what it might be eligible for!

Novel

My debut novel 'A Reluctant Spy'

My debut novel A RELUCTANT SPY came out in September of this year. It's eligible for the CWA Daggers (both the Gold Best Novel dagger and the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger). It's also eligible for the Harrogate Theakston Crime Awards (McDermid Debut Award) and the Bloody Scotland Awards (Debut Prize and McIlvanney Prize). Nominations and votes are very, very welcome, as this is my first year of eligibility and first year in the crime and thriller world.

Short fiction

I had four pieces of short fiction published this year.

Analog SF - January/February 2024

Hull Run - published in the Jan/Feb 2024 issue of Analog SF Magazine, this is a novelette about bored teenagers on a Venusian airmining platform deciding to go outside for a bet during a bad storm and the complications that ensue (plus grief and friendship and why we do stupid things).

This story was available in late 2023 due to how Analog is distributed, so it is not eligible under Nebula rules, but it is eligible for the 2025 Hugo Awards in Seattle. It is otherwise eligible for BSFA awards and similar in the novelette categories.

Clarkesworld 209 - February 2024

Kardashev's Palimpsest - Published in the February 2024 issue of Clarkesworld Magazine, this novelette tells the story of two people who become the first immortal humans, then meet and part many times over the billions (then trillions) of years as humanity slowly evolves into a galaxy-spanning Kardashev Type III civilisation.

Analog SF - September/October 2024

Best Practices for Safe Asteroid Handling - published in the Sep/Oct 2024 issue of Analog SF Magazine, this novelette tells the story of an asteroid miner living in a post-capitalist group mind collective in deep space, who must deal with a mysterious incomer who seems extremely determined to kill him. It's been a good year! I've put out one novel and four pieces of short fiction, which is a fair amount now that I stack it all up like that. I have very likely missed some awards that the above works might be eligible for, so if you think my novel or one of my stories is award-worthy and want to nominate it, please do so, even if I haven't noted specific awards above.

I'll be writing more roundup posts as the year draws to a close, but here in the last few days of November it's nice to take a look at the year's published output and say 'yep, good stuff'.

Thank you for reading, nominating and voting!
